What kind of cats join the LAPS Working Whiskers Program?
Cats in this program fall into one of three categories:
Cat temperaments can range from friendly to semi-feral/feral. The LAPS Working Whiskers Program gives opportunity for cats to be rehomed, that have traditionally been deemed ‘unadoptable’ through regular adoption procedures.
How can a Working Whiskers cat benefit you?
Working cats greatly benefit their caretakers! Your working cat will help reduce the rodent population in exchange for a safe place to live. Having a working cat means that you do not need to use any poisons or dangerous traps. Working cats can thrive in a variety of different environments (and will be matched accordingly) such as barns, stables, garages, warehouses, wineries, breweries, and other environments.
What Does LAPS Provide?
Cats in the LAPS Working Whiskers Program are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and flea and worm treated. They have had a health check and have been provided with a permanent form of identification.
What Will You Provide?
You will provide a warm, secure “safe room” in which you will provide the cat with ongoing fresh food/water, regularly cleaned litter boxes and hiding spots and beds. You will need to monitor the cat for their wellbeing and safety. You must also be willing to trap the cat to provide veterinary care or grooming, as needed.
