Township of Langley Animal Control and Sheltering Services

Animal Sheltering and Animal Control Services in the Township of Langley are now being delivered under a revised service model. Learn how these changes affect residents and service users.

Animal Control in the Township of Langley

The Township of Langley Bylaw Division oversees enforcement of the Township's Animal Control Bylaw and responds to animal control matters within Township boundaries.

For concerns within the Township of Langley’s boundaries related to:

  • Dog bites or aggressive dogs
  • Stray dogs or farm animals
  • Deceased animals
  • Animal-related noise complaints
  • Other animal-related bylaw offences

Dog Licensing and Animal Welfare Concerns

Stray Animal Sheltering at the Patti Dale Animal Shelter for Township Animals

The Patti Dale Animal Shelter only provides animal sheltering services for animals that reside in, or are found within, the Township of Langley’s boundaries.

Animals found in Metro Vancouver Regional Parks fall outside Township jurisdiction and are governed by Metro Vancouver’s Regional Parks authority and bylaws. For information about animals found in those areas, please refer directly to our Metro Vancouver’s Regional Parks page

Animals found outside Township of Langley boundaries are generally outside the scope of intake at the Patti Dale Shelter.  If you are unsure whether an animal was found or resides within the Township, please refer to the Township boundary map below before bringing the animals to the shelter.

When an animal falls outside Township boundaries, LAPS staff may be able to assist with housing based on available resources at other locations and through foster homes.  LAPS may also be able to direct members of the public to the appropriate municipality or an alternate organization for assistance. Please contact LAPS at the below number before bringing any animals falling outside Township boundaries to the Township’s shelter.

Cat Support and Services

The Township does not provide animal control enforcement or regulatory services for cats.

As part of the Township’s service agreement with LAPS, cat sheltering, adoption, and spay/neuter services are delivered by LAPS as donor-funded programs and are not funded by the Township. These services are delivered in accordance with LAPS’ programs and available resources.
