Animal Control Officer – Auxiliary

Langley Animal Protection Society

Under the direction of the Manager of Animal Control Services, the Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws as per our contract agreements. They participate in LAPS mission work as it relates to cats. The officer is to work to ensure public (people and animals) safety and improve the welfare of animals through education of welfare best practices and enforcement where needed. They investigate and conduct regulatory work, patrolling designated areas of the City and Township, enforcing municipal by-laws and licensing regulations related to animals. Under general supervision, an officer investigates complaints regarding animal related by-law violations, catches and transports stray animals, issues tickets, and performs related clerical work.

Customer Care Representative

The Customer Care Representative is critical to the overall reputation of the organization as it is the first point of contact for the public (in person/phone/email), providing excellent customer service and assistance for visitors, adopters, volunteers, and donors. The position directly supports the Animal Control Department and is responsible for the timely, high priority dispatching of all Animal Control calls and inquiries, which is a vital role in the response to Bylaw requests from the public. The position also assists with day-to-day functions and has various administrative duties. The customer care representative services internal and external stakeholders and is often the hub and coordinator of activities for other departments. This is a dynamic and fast paced role suited for a friendly, energetic, and self-directed multitasker who can work well independently, and as part of a team.

Animal Welfare and Behaviour Coordinator

Under the direction of the Manager of Animal Welfare, the Animal Welfare and Behavior Coordinator position is responsible for all day-to-day operating procedures governing and facilitating good welfare of the animals at LAPS. This role also provides support to the Animal Pathway Planning Coordinator, Animal Health Coordinator and the Animal Care Team. The Animal Welfare and Behavior Coordinator will oversee the welfare for every animal from intake to adoption and collaborate with the Animal Health Coordinator with managing the animal’s health. They will provide and supervise training and behaviour modification for all shelter animals using ethical methods that do not use pain, force or intimidation. The Animal Welfare and Behavior Coordinator will support the foster placement and adoptions of animals needing behavioural support with one-to-one instruction for fosters/adopters pre and post placement. Working as a member of the Animal Care Team, this position interacts and collaborates with all organization levels. In addition, they act as a subject matter expert and provide staff/volunteer training as necessary about animal behaviour.

Animal Care Attendant

Under the direction of the Manager of Animal Welfare, the Animal Care Attendant (ACA) is responsible for the day-to-day care of the animals at LAPS. This includes feeding, watering, cleaning, exercising, bathing, medicating, and monitoring the well-being of dogs, cats, and other animals and related documentation. The ACA team is responsible for building maintenance for both animal and people areas. The ACA team is responsible for maintaining all areas of the shelter in a clean, neat, and orderly manner. Bringing enthusiasm and energy to a team environment participating in daily animal care duties to ensure optimal levels of care are administered to the animals based on LAPS vision, mission, and core values.
