We are deeply disappointed to announce that on September 9, 2025, LAPS was given 30-days notice, by the Township of Langley, to vacate the Patti Dale Animal Shelter, and that our contract for animal control and sheltering has been terminated. Please refer to our statement HERE.
We have received a truly inspiring outpouring of support, which has meant the world to our team. We wish we could respond to each and every message and hope to connect with our community soon. We have noticed an overwhelming theme in the emails, messages and notes we have been receiving: People want to help. We hope this guide can act as a resource to our amazing community as we navigate this new reality together.
- Thank you from the LAPS team
If you are interested in adopting a dog or a cat from LAPS, we would love to hear from you. Please head to our adoption page to see if any of our beautiful animals could be your new best friend. One of our team members will get back to you as soon as possible.
Foster Homes for our Animals
We are not sure what the future holds but we have begun to plan for all possible outcomes. If you are interested in fostering cats or dogs, please click on the link below to submit your contact information, and one of our team members will get back to you as soon as possible.
Financial Contributions
We are truly grateful to receive donations of all kinds from our community. Sadly, we are currently unable to take physical donations, with the exception of unopened dry & wet food, as we prepare for our move. Please consider donating financially. The costs of legal fees over the last year of negotiations, as well as our moving and relocation fees, have been significant, and any monetary donations will help us re-direct funds to where they belong - back to the animals.
Make Your Voice Heard
If you would like to voice your thoughts on the termination of LAPS animal control & sheltering services with the Township of Langley, please reach out to the mayor and council at mayorcouncil@tol.ca. We truly appreciate all your support.
Despite the challenges this decision brings, LAPS is committed to continuing to serve Greater Langley with compassion and integrity.
We are proud of the dedication and professionalism of our outstanding staff, as well as the passion and commitment of our generous volunteers, supporters and donors. Without them, the lifesaving work LAPS has undertaken would not have been possible. Together, we have improved the lives of countless animals, pet owners and Township residents. We remain dedicated to standing up for animals who can’t speak for themselves, and to ensuring every animal is given a second chance.
We are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love and support shown to us. Even as we express our concerns to the Township regarding its decision, LAPS is also exploring new opportunities to expand our programs, strengthen partnerships and adapt to meet the needs of animals and pet owners in new ways.
We invite the community to stay engaged: volunteer, foster, adopt, donate and write to mayor and council—because even as our shelter changes, the animals still need us. If you wish to voice your support for LAPS, email mayorcouncil@tol.ca.
More about LAPS’ impact can be found in our 2024 Community Report.
