Our shelter is open for visitors to view adoptable dogs and puppies seven days a week from 11 AM – 5 PM (except statutory holidays). To meet the dogs and begin the adoption process, an application must be submitted, and appointments will be scheduled with our adoption counselor. To ensure the best match, meet-and-greets with our adoption counselor are required before final approval for adoption. Please keep in mind that viewing dogs in their kennels can be stressful for them, and their behavior in this environment may not always reflect their true personality. Some may bark, pace, or appear shy, while others may seem overly excited—these are often responses to the shelter setting rather than indicators of how they’ll behave in a home. Additionally, not all adoptable dogs are housed in our main adoption wing; some may be in foster care or quieter areas of the shelter to better meet their needs. Our adoption profiles are created based on our knowledge of each dog’s needs and behaviors, making them the best place to start. Please click here to view all our adoptable dogs.
If you see a dog you are interested in, the next step is to fill out our adoption application. This application will give our adoption counsellors the necessary information to ensure you match with the right dog depending on your lifestyle and household. Please take the time to fill the application out completely. Adoption applications can be found in the write up on each animal’s profile.
If you are selected to adopt the dog you applied for, an adoption counsellor will contact you directly. They will schedule a time for you to meet the dog/puppy that you are interested in. You will then be ready to take your new dog home! Our adoption team will have you sign an adoption contract, pay the applicable fees and provide you with lots of tips to help you transition your new dog into their new environment. Prior to adoption, all LAPS dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, tattooed or microchipped, and receive their first set of vaccinations. The adoption fee also includes a free check-up with a veterinarian within three days of adoption and six weeks of free Petsecure pet insurance. Now its time to take your new family member home! LAPS will be here to support you with your adoption transition!
* All costs are approximate and may vary.
The adoption fee is often the least expensive part of adding a new member to your family. Many dogs and cats come to LAPS in need of medical attention and training. Adoption fees help us cover the cost of caring for the animals at the shelter.

Private Adoption through LAPS allows pet owners who need to rehome their pets to list their animals on our website, giving them greater visibility to potential adopters. This service helps connect pets with loving homes while ensuring the entire adoption process is managed privately between the current owner and the adopter. LAPS provides the platform for exposure, but all communication, decision-making, and final arrangements are handled directly by the owner and the prospective adopter.
