Volunteer

We are only able to exist because of our volunteers. Without their support and generosity with their time, the shelter would not be able to run. Every visit a volunteer makes to the LAPS shelter makes a difference in the lives of our animals. Becoming a volunteer is easy and fun.  Orientation is provided.

Why become a volunteer?

  • Know that you are making a difference in many of the cats' and dogs' lives at LAPS
  • Have a sense of community involvement
  • Meet new people
  • Gain valuable work experience.  Letters of reference will be given if you are interested in pursuing an animal related profession

What makes a great volunteer?

  • Love of helping animals
  • A positive attitude
  • A team player attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to commit to 3 hours a week or more

The minimum age to volunteer without parent or guardian is 16 years old. LAPS welcomes children 8-16 years old to volunteer with a parent or guardian. Orientation will be provided which will include an overview of the shelter's, do's and don’ts.

Volunteer hours are 10:00 am – 5:30 pm – Monday through Sunday.
