How to Adopt a Cat or Kitten from LAPS

 

Step 1: View Our Adoptables

Please click HERE to view all of our adoptable cats and kittens, or feel free to come by the shelter between 11-5 Sunday through Saturday to view all of our adoptable animals in person.

Step 2: Fill Out an Adoption Application

If you see a cat you are interested in, the next step is to fill out our adoption application. If you are interested in more than one of our adoptable animals, please put all their names and ID #s on one applicaiton in the space provided. This application will give our adoption counsellors the necessary information to match you with the right cat depending on your lifestyle and household. Please take the time to fill the application out completely. Adoption applications can be found in the write up on each animal’s profile.

Step 3: Application Review

Here at LAPS, we strive to match each animal to the best family. Our adoption counsellors take the time to carefully consider all applications that are submitted before making their final selections. If you are chosen to adopt a cat or kitten, our adoption counsellors will connect with you directly to further process your adoption. They will also be able to set up a time for you to meet the cat or kitten in person.

The adoption counsellors will be able to answer any questions you may have about the cat and advise you on any medical or special care requirements the cat may have. All information about the cat is disclosed so you can make an informed decision about adopting. 

Step 4: Taking Your New Cat Home

Once your application is approved our adoption counsellors will then process the adoption. Our adoption counsellors will be there every step of the way to ensure you have the support you need. They will be able to advise you on the best practices to smoothly transition your cat into their new environment. Prior to adoption, all LAPS dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, tattooed or microchipped, and receive their first set of vaccinations. The adoption fee also includes a free check-up with a veterinarian within three days of adoption, six weeks of free Petsecure pet insurance and a bag of Earth Options premium food for adult cats. Now, its time to take your new family member home!

How to Adopt a Dog from LAPS

 

Step 1: View Our Adoptable Dogs

Step 2: Interview with Adoption Counsellor

If you see a dog you are interested in, the next step is to fill out our adoption application. This application will give our adoption counsellors the necessary information to match you with the right dog depending on your lifestyle and household. Step 3: Training Sessions

If you are selected to adopt the dog you applied for, an adoption counsellor will contact you directly. Every LAPS adopter must commit to 3 training sessions before taking a dog home. The purpose of the training sessions is to provide the dog and the adopter with the training and resources they need to succeed in their new environment. The time and training that a LAPS dog receives helps them become the best doggy citizens they can be.

Step 4: Taking Your New Dog Home

Upon completion of your 3rd training session you will be ready to take your new dog home! Our adoption team will have you sign an adoption contract, pay the applicable fees and provide you with lots of tips to help you transition your new dog into their new environment. Adoption Fees

The adoption fee is often the least expensive part of adding a new member to your family. Many dogs and cats come to LAPS in need of medical attention and training. Adoption fees help us cover the cost of caring for the animals at the shelter.
