Foster
Fostering is an important part of sheltering stray and lost animals. It involves taking in and working with, a shelter dog or cat, on a short term basis, in order to prepare it for a permanent home. Fostering a dog or cat from the shelter is a very rewarding experience. It gives him or her a more comfortable place to stay until a forever home is found.
LAPS is currently looking for individuals that have the time and expertise to make a difference in the life of a LAPS shelter cat or dog. We welcome those with experience with behavioral issues and the time and desire to help rehabilitate dogs so that they can go to a forever home. Some animals require medical attention that is easier to provide in a home-like setting.
Please note: Animals in foster care remain available for adoption as it is our goal to find permanent homes for them. The average fostering period is 2 weeks to 2 months. A home inspection may be required.
If you are interested in fostering a LAPS cat or dog, please download and fill in our Foster Application Form and fax it to (604) 857-5057, mail it in, or bring into the shelter. For more information about our fostering program please contact us.
Foster to Adopt Program
LAPS offers a Foster to Adopt Program. The foster period is 2 weeks, after which time the pet is either returned to the shelter or welcomed to the new home as a permanent resident. This is an excellent way for both pet and owner to get to know each other. For this type of adoption, potential owners go through the same application process as adoptive owners do.
