Adopt
We strive to find permanent homes for all of our animals. However, adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. Bringing a cat or dog into your home is one of life's great joys, but of course it is also a new responsibility. We therefore, strive to match breeds and temperaments to potential owners to find the best match for both.
We have a special need for loving homes for middle aged dogs and cats. They have often been abandoned or surrendered due to a major change in the owners life, like allergies or a move. These animals still have lots of love to give and are very grateful to be in a loving home rather than a shelter.
All LAPS dogs and cats (including kittens) are spayed or neutered prior to being adopted, have a microchip/tattoo, are vaccinated and receive a de-flea and de-worm treatment.
Prior to adoption, LAPS dogs receive a comprehensive temperament assessment and 3 to 6 weeks of training at the LAPS Shelter or at our FVI Training Facility. This allows your new dog to learn good manners and maybe even some tricks!
The Application Process
- Interview with an adoption counselor
- A scheduled home visit
- Successful applicants are then required to complete 3 dog obedience lessons prior to taking home a dog
LAPS often receives multiple applications for animals in our care. We reserve the right to select the most appropriate candidate based on LAPS criteria and policy.
